An early postcard in excellent condition which gives a good sense of the colors intended without fading or restoration needed.
A view of the shortest river (76 miles) to empty into the Bay of Bengal, and a long-critical artery for Chennai, at a time when it was much less polluted than today.
Almost invisible in this painted scene are the two men near the center, half-hidden markers of scale, secret rewards for the perceptive postcard viewer.
According to Hobson-Jobson, the word gymkhana "is quite modern, and was unknown 40 years ago. The first use that we can trace is (on the authority of Major John Trotter) at Rūrkī in 1861, when a gymkhana was instituted there.
Actually above Mir Alam Tank, Hyderabad. An unusual postcard, not only because it is a late lithographic one, but also because the focus is on the rocks, lake and vegetation, the boat and tiny figure standing in the foreground.
